Confederate returns to No. 1 spot in Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll

Hightstown, NJ — Max C. Hempt Memorial-winner Confederate returned to the No. 1 spot in the Week 11 edition of the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released Tuesday. Confederate previously was ranked first in Week 6.

Confederate received 32 of 35 first-place votes. Third-ranked It’s My Show, who was idle last week, received the remaining three. (Note: Voting was completed Tuesday morning, prior to It’s My Show racing Tuesday afternoon at Red Mile.)

Sylvia Hanover, who spent the past three weeks at No. 1, dropped to second after making a break and finishing eighth in the James M. Lynch Memorial.

The only other change in the rankings was a swap of positions six and seven between Silver Label, who won a FFA pace for fillies and mares at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and idle Jiggy Jog S. The only other horse to race last week in the Top 10 was No. 5 Tactical Approach, who won a Kentucky Sire Stakes leg.

The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.

Rankings based on the votes of harness racing media representatives on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.
